Allen Earns Big Road Win At KCK

The Allen Red Devils earned a tough road against a KCK team who was also undefeated in Conference on Saturday afternoon 73-68. The Red Devils got off to a quick start as Ed Wright connected on a couple 3 pointers which led to a few quick timeouts from KCK. Allen would keep KCK off balance with different defenses which never allowed KCK much rhythm in the first half. The Blue Devils did however make a strong finish to the half, as Allen had a few turnovers in the final minute. KCK closed the gap to 4 points at the break 31-27 in favor of Allen.

The second half saw some momentum shifts back and forth as both teams started making plays on the offensive end. KCK snuck all the way back and grabbed a 1-point lead at 43-42, but Allen quickly responded with an old fashioned 3-point play to regain the lead. The Red Devils would not give the lead back up for the remainder of the contest, but the Blue Devils kept within striking distance.

In the final few minutes Allen stretched their lead up to as many as 8 points, but KCK would knock down some timely 3 pointers to keep the game within reach. Allen also struggled inbounding the ball against KCK's pressure, but with under 5 seconds remaining Cedric Rollerson calmly knocked down 2 free-throws to solidify the victory.

Ed Wright led all scorers with 26 points. Wright connected on 5 of 9 three pointers and grabbed 6 rebounds. Cedric Rollerson finished the game with 13 points, as he was able to go 11-14 from the free-throw line. Brayden Thompson had a big game on both ends of the floor and finished with 12 points and 14 rebounds to earn a double-double.

Allen is now 17-4 on the season, and still sitting atop the KJCCC Conference standings at 6-0. Next, the 20th ranked Red Devils will host the #2 nationally ranked Johnson County Cavaliers on Wednesday at 8:00 pm. Johnson County and Allen are the only remaining undefeated teams in the Conference.
