Allen Men Earn First Conference Win

The Allen Men's Basketball team opened up KJCCC action with a 10-point road win at Labette 81-71. The Cardinals scored on their first possession to lead 2-0, but from there Allen would tighten up the defense and held Labette scoreless for several possessions. Allen jumped out to a early 10-2 run, as Ed Wright connected on several early 3's.

Allen took advantage of Labette's run and trap style of play and got many easy layups and open 3's in the first half. The Red Devils took a 18-point lead into the halftime break 44-26. Allen only had 3 first half turnovers which was important against Labette's pressure defense.

In the second half Allen would keep the lead around 20 points for most of early going. The Red Devils led by as much as 24 points with 12 minutes left in the game. The Cardinals wouldn't go quietly, as they increased the pressure and started playing very physical. Allen started turning the basketball over late in the game which allowed Labette to cut into the late in the game. Labette got within 8 points late, but Allen converted some late free-throws to seal the win.

Ed Wright had his career high in a Red Devil uniform with 36 points on 13-22 from the floor. Wright connected on 4-8 3-point attempts, and made several tough baskets to help Allen earn a tough road win. Tyren Shelley chipped in 9 points on 3-5 from 3.

The Red Devils are 12-4 overall, and 1-0 in KJCCC play. Next Allen will host Hesston College on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
