Red Devils Escape With Win

The Allen Men's Basketball team pushed their win streak to 6 with a comeback win over the Metropolitan Community College Wolves. In the first minute of action it appeared as though the Red Devils were going to have a good start, as Allen jumped out to a 6-0 lead. However, Allen would go into a scoring drought, and MCC would go on a 23 to 0 run. The Red Devils would not score for almost 10 minutes of game time. Tanner Meyer broke the drought with a transition layup, and Allen would begin to slowly mount their comeback.

Allen was able to close the deficit to just 8 points at halftime 22-30 in favor of the Wolves. Both teams really struggled from the floor as MCC shot 32% from the floor in the first half, while Allen shot 31% from the floor. The Red Devils came out with some early momentum in the second half, and took the lead midway through the half. Allen would lead by as many as 6 points, but MCC would not go away. They quickly surged back to regain a slim lead in the final minutes of action.

With a minute remaining both teams were knotted up at 51-51. Allen earned a defensive stop, and the Wolves were charged with a Flagrant 1 technical, giving Allen two free-throws and possession. Cory Reynolds calmly knocked down two free-throws, giving Allen a 53-51 lead. The Red Devils would inbound the ball to Tyren Shelley, and Shelley quickly passed the ball to Nick Whittick. Whittick would be fouled and converted 1 of 2 free-throws to give Allen a 3 point lead with 6 seconds remaining

MCC inbounded the ball and quickly raced up the floor. Nick Whittick got a deflection and caused a loose ball, but Ahmed Mahgoub would be whistled for a foul with 0.7 seconds remaining in the game. The Wolves would make both free-throws, even though they tried to miss the second attempt. Allen would inbound the ball and the game ended 54-53 in favor of the Red Devils.

In a low scoring affair, Cedric Rollerson led the way in scoring with 11 points. Rollerson also dished out 5 assists. Ahmed Mahgoub scored 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Christian Arndt and Tanner Meyer both finished with 8 points.

The Allen men are now 9-3 on the season. Allen will host Oklahoma Wesleyan on Thursday December 9th at 5:30 pm, and then turn around and host Kansas Wesleyan on Friday December 10th at 6:30 pm. Both games were originally scheduled to be in Chanute, KS at Neosho CC, but the games have been moved to Allen Community College.
