Allen Survives Southeast

The Allen Men's Basketball team won their 4th straight contest with a 74-71 victory over the Southeast Community College Storm on Friday evening. The Red Devils got off to a great start and led for the majority of the first half. Southeast made several first half mini runs, but Allen kept responding and took an 8-point lead into the halftime break 40-32.

In the second half the two teams would trade baskets through the first 10 minutes, as Allen held their lead around 8 points. Near the 6-minute mark of the second half the Storm went on a big run as they connected on perimeter shots and converted at the free-throw line. Southeast led by as much as 5 points after the run. After a timeout from Coach Shaw the Red Devils re-focused and regained the lead after a couple of 3 point makes from Tanner Meyer.

Allen stretched their lead back to 6 points in the final minutes, but Southeast would not back down as they made timely 3's to keep within striking distance. With under 15 seconds to play Allen held a 3-point advantage, and the Storm missed a 3-point attempt, but Southeast would grab the offensive rebound and had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, but fortunately for the Red Devils the shot fell off the rim.

Allen only travelled 12 of their 18 players but came away with a great road win 74-71 with a shortened bench. Cedric Rollerson and Ed Wright led the way in scoring with 18 points each, and Rollerson also dished out 6 assists. Scottie Turner made his return to action after sustaining an injury in the first game of the season. Turner scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Freshman Chris Dixon had big moments for the Red Devils with 8 points on 2-4 from 3-point line and 6 rebounds.

Allen is now 7-3 on the season and will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm against #15 Central Community College.
