Men's Basketball Hangs On vs KCK

The Allen Men's Basketball team picked up a much needed 76-68 win over the KCK Blue Devils on Tuesday. The Red Devils and the Blue Devils went back and forth in the early going, and just before half time the Red Devils were about to extend the lead to 9 points (35-26). In the first half Allen's zone defense gave the Blue Devils some problems. Canaan Daniels knocked down a pair of 3's in the first half to give Allen the momentum at the break.

In the second half Allen would keep the momentum for the majority of the half. The Red Devils extended their lead to as much as 15 points, but KCK would not go away quietly. The Blue Devils would try to chip away at the Allen lead and made the final two minutes interesting as Allen stuggled keeping possession of the ball. The Red Devils would turn the ball over several times in the final 2 minutes and gave KCK some hope. Fortunately the Red Devils were able to convert a few free-throws down the stretch to earn a good home win.

Allen was led in scoring by sophomore Joel Boyce with 22 points on 6-14 shooting and 10-11 from the free throw line. Malik Hardmon recorded another double-double and made several big plays in the second half. Hardmon would finish with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Canaan Daniels was the only other Red Devil in double digits with 11 points on 3-5 shooting from 3. Erlyn Ramirez was big for the Red Devils on the defensive end all night. Ramirez took several charges and also grabbed 12 rebounds.

Allen improves to 2-4 on the season and will travel to Fort Scott this weekend for two games against Louisiana Christian and Bethany College JV.
