Red Devils Pick Up Needed Win

The Allen Men's Basketball team snapped their losing streak in a tough road conference matchup against Butler County 79-74. In the early going neither team could really separate, but midway through the first half the Allen bench made some big plays to get the Red Devils the momentum in the first half. Tyus Jeffries connected on two 3's, followed by a 3 from Darius Love to give Allen a double-digit lead in the first half. The Red Devils stretched the lead to as many as 13 in the first half, but the Butler Grizzlies closed the gap to 9 at the halftime break 43-34.

In the second half the Grizzlies would mount a slow but steady comeback. The Red Devils would hold on to the lead until the final few minutes when Butler got an offensive rebound put back and grabbed a 1 point lead. Fortunately on the ensuing possession the Red Devils were able to regain the lead for good. Late in the Jamaal Clifton snagged a huge offensive rebound and connected on the 3 point play to extend the Allen lead to 6 points. The Red Devils got some help late in the game, as Butler received a technical foul after scoring a bucket that cut the Allen lead to 3 points. Trez Hankins connected on both technical foul shots to push the lead back to 2 possessions for Allen.

In the end the Red Devils made enough plays to escape with a great road victory in conference. Malik Hardmon led the way in scoring with 16 points. Jamaal Clifton had a huge impact off the bench for Allen with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Darius Love scored 12 points, and Perry Carroll also reached double figures with 11 points. This win moves the Red Devils to 13-11 on the year, and 5-10 in KJCCC play.

Next Allen will host Coffeyville on Monday (2/11/19) at 8:00 PM. The matchup vs the Red Ravens will be Allen's Homecoming game.
