The Allen Men's Basketball team lost a tough game to the Cloud County Thunderbirds Thursday evening 78-75. Allen struggled on the offensive end for the majority of the night, shooting 31.7% for the game. The Thunderbirds shot 45.8% from the floor for the game. Despite the lopsided percentages, the Red Devils had their chances. In the first half, Allen found themselves down midway through the first half. The half was sloppy as Allen had careless turnovers and couldn't convert easy shots around the rim. The Red Devils played their best basketball of the night to close out the first half on a big run, and stole the lead. Allen led by 4 at the break 41-37.
In the early going of the second half it was more sloppy play for the Red Devils. Allen just couldn't piece together any offense to pull away from the Thunderbirds. The teams went back and forth exchanging leads throughout the half. Late in the game Cloud pulled ahead by 5 points, but Allen kept fighting and shrunk the deficit to 1 with 45 seconds remaining in the game.
On the ensuing Cloud possession Allen was able to get a defensive stop. Perry Carroll drove the lane and kicked to a wide open Trez Hankins who had a good look at the go ahead basket, but the shot did not fall. Allen quickly fouled with 1.5 seconds remaining down 1. Cloud would convert two more free throws to go up 3. The Red Devils executed a full length of the court play and Perry Carroll had a good look to tie the game, but the ball spun in and out giving Cloud the road victory.
This loss drops the Red Devils to 4-6 in KJCCC play and 12-7 on the year. Allen will have a quick turnaround as they head to Ark. City to take on Cowley Saturday evening at 7:30 PM.
