Men's Basketball Wins Conference Opener

On Wednesday evening the Allen Men's Basketball team pushed their win streak to 6 games, and also won the first Jayhawk Conference matchup of the season defeating Pratt 89-84 in overtime. The game never saw a lead of more than 6 for either team. In the first half of play Perry Carroll was on fire for the Red Devils as he poured in 20 points in the first 20 minutes of play. At the halftime break the Red Devils shot 50% from the floor and Pratt shot 48.5% from the floor, as both teams struggled to get stops.

In the second half the Red Devils held Pratt to just 35.1% for the half. Allen did struggle rebounding as Pratt out-rebounded the Red Devils by 3 (Pratt grabbed 19 offensive rebounds). In the final minutes of regulation the Red Devils were able to grab a 3 point lead. Pratt drove in and missed a runner in the paint, and a scramble for the rebound led to a kick out 3 for Tyvon Taylor for Pratt to tie the score at 74. Allen had a chance to win in regulation, as Darius Love had a good look at a corner 3, but the shot was no good and the teams headed to overtime.

In the overtime, freshman Trez Hankins stepped up and made two big 3's to give Allen a 6 point cushion. Both teams would trade baskets in the final minutes, but Allen was able to get enough stops to win the game. Allen stepped up and made free-throws to clinch their first conference win. Perry Carroll was unable to play in the overtime period due to cramps in his legs, but Carroll still led Allen in scoring with 28 points on 6-11 shooting from the 3 point line. Trez Hankins had his best game as a Red Devil with 16 points on 4-7 shooting from 3. Darius Love chipped in 13 points, and Malik Hardmon finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds.

The Red Devils improved to 9-1 on the season, and 1-0 in the Jayhawk Conference. Next up, Allen will travel to Garden City on Saturday for a 4:00 PM Conference game.
