Allen Men Take Down 11th Ranked Moberly Area

The second day of the State Fair Classic in Sedalia, Mo the Allen Men's Basketball team picked up another solid team win, with a 106-103 win over the 11th nationally ranked Moberly Area Greyhounds. This win made it a 2-0 sweep over the Missouri schools hosting the classic. The start wasn't the best for Allen, as Moberly quickly scored easy baskets around the rim to gain the early lead. Allen would respond and keep the first half close. In the final few minutes of the first half of play, the Red Devils went on a run and snatched the lead from the Greyhounds. Moberly responded with a 5-0 run of their own to even the score at 43-43 going into the break.

In the second half, the teams would exchange leads- 11 lead changes total for the game and 9 ties. Due to some better 3 point shooting in the second half the Red Devils were able to pull ahead by 9 points with under 10 minutes to play. Both teams struggled to get defensive stops late in the game, and both teams shot 50% for the game. The 3 point line was huge for the Red Devils as they connected on 10 of their 19 attempts to stay ahead of the Greyhounds.

The Red Devils were able to keep their lead for the remainder of the game, but Moberly did not quit. Alonzo Verge Jr. for the Greyhounds put on an incredible performance as he scored 46 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and had 7 assists (committed to Arizona State University). The Red Devils got big games from several players, and had 3 players score over 20 points. Perry Carroll led the way for Allen with 25 points and 4 assists. Darius Love scored 24 points and 5 rebounds. Wesley Anderson Jr. had his best game as a Red Devil with 21 points (9-9 from the free-throw line, and 2-3 from 3 point range). Jamaal Clifton scored 15 points and had 5 assists. Malik Hardmon had 9 points and 7 rebounds.

This win pushes Allen's overall record to 7-1. Allen will host KCK on Tuesday at 8:00 PM.
