Allen Men Win In Dramatic Fashion

The Allen Men's Basketball team won their 2nd game in as many days in dramatic fashion over the Labette Cardinals. The beginning of the game was very sloppy for both teams, and the Red Devils only scored 5 points in the opening 9 minutes of play. Allen had several early turnovers, and missed layup opportunities to start the game. After the media timeout in the first half, Allen began to pick up the pace and tried to cut into the lead by Labette. Allen trailed Labette only by 6 points at the halftime break (31-37), despite shooting 27.6% for the half, compared to 51.6% shooting for the Cardinals.

In the second half, Allen was able to pick up the pace on the offensive end as they shot 12/26 for 46.2%. Malik Hardmon was much more efficient in the second half for the Red Devils, as he was able to get several offensive rebound put backs to help keep Allen in the game. In the closing minutes of the game, the Red Devils were finally able to get over the hump and grabbed the lead. With all of the momentum on their side, Allen grabbed a 5 point lead with just a few minutes left to play. Labette would not back down, as they made a few big shots to keep the game close.

With 11 seconds remaining in the game, Allen had a 3 point lead, but Labette had the ball side-out-of-bounds. Labette missed a quick 3, but the Cardinals got the offensive rebound and Keondre Kennedy quickly shot another 3 which went in and Allen fouled on the attempt, giving Labette a free-throw attempt with 2.4 seconds to try and take the lead. Allen called timeout to try and freeze the free-throw shooter. Kenney stepped up to the free-throw line and rimmed out his free-throw that could have seal the win for Labette. Darius Love grabbed the rebound and outlet the ball to Perry Carroll who hoisted a shot from behind the half-court line and banked it in as time expired.

Darius Love led the way in scoring for Allen with 17 points (10-14 from the free-throw line), and 4 assists. Malik Hardmon posted his first double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Perry Carroll scored 14 points. Jamaal Clifton chipped in 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Allen is now 2-0 on the season.
