Allen Knocks Off #11 Ranked Hutchinson

The Allen Men's Basketball team upset #11 ranked Hutchinson CC on Wednesday night 87-86. Allen shot the ball incredibly well from the 3 point line, connecting on 17-32 from deep. In the early going Tyler Williams caught fire giving Allen an early lead. The Red Devils would take a 3 point lead into the halftime break 42-39.

In the early going of the second half the Red Devils were able to extend their lead near double digits. Hutchinson did not go quietly as they went on a big run midway through the half to take a 7 point lead. Allen settled down and kept battling and cut back into the Hutch lead. Both teams struggled to get defensive stops in the second half as Hutchinson shot 54%, while Allen shot 46% from the field in the half.

Allen got a few big stops late in the game to give themselves a chance to win the game. In a tie game with under a minute left Jacob Patterson got a big offensive rebound and got fouled. Patterson would go on to make 1 of 2 free throws to give Allen a 1 point lead late in the game. On the next possession, Allen was able to get a deflection and steal. Rayce Hoepker was quickly fouled and went  to the line for a 1 and 1. Hoepker missed the free throw and Hutch called timeout. Allen showed a little pressure on the ballhandler and was able to force another late turnover for the Blue Dragons. Allen inbounded the ball to Hoepker who was quickly fouled. With just under 3 seconds Hoepker had another 1 and 1, but unfortunately missed that one as well. Hutch quickly called timeout on the rebound leaving 1.6 seconds left on the clock. Hutch inbounded the ball up the sideline and missed the half court heave at the buzzer.

Allen was led in scoring by Tyler Williams with 23 points on 6-9 shooting from 3. Jordan Marshall made some big plays late and scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Rayce Hoepker shot the ball well from 3, connecting on 5 of 8 from 3. Perry Carroll had a great game with 13 points and 8 assists.

Allen will hit the road Saturday to play Cloud County.
