Allen Loses Tough Game at Coffeyville

The Allen Men's Basketball team lost 79-71 on the road against Coffeyville Wednesday evening. The Red Devils got off to a very slow start, and trailed 13-2 in the early going. Allen had trouble taking care of the basketball in the first half of play with 12 turnovers in the first 20 minutes of play. Allen struggled scoring in the first half as they only connected on 9 of their 23 attempts. Coffeyville's largest lead of the game was 38-22 near the end of the first half of play. The Red Ravens went on to a halftime lead of 42-29 over the Red Devils.

The second half was completely different, as Allen stopped playing on their heels and became much more aggressive to start the second half. Allen would outscore the Red Ravens by 5 points in the second half, but did not have enough to fully complete the comeback. Allen scored the basketball better in the second half at 46.2% on 12 of 26 shooting. The two areas that hurt Allen the most were turnovers (18 for the game) and missed free-throws as the Red Devils shot 63.6% from the charity stripe (21-33). The Red Devils battled and made things interesting late in the game, cutting the Red Raven lead to just 3 with only a few minutes to play. Coffeyville stepped up and made some big baskets down the stretch to seal the win.

Allen was led in scoring and rebounding by starting point guard Perry Carroll. Carroll finished the game with 19 points and 9 rebounds, and also dished out 3 assists. Jordan Marshall also had a nice game for Allen with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Marshall battled some foul trouble throughout the game. Tyler Williams scored 13 points, and Jacob Patterson finished with 10 points.

The Red Devils are now 4-10 in Jayhawk Conference play and 6-12 on the season. The Red Devils will host their rivals of Neosho on Saturday afternoon for a 4:00 PM tip-off.
