Allen Lost Tough Conference Opener 79-83

The Allen Men's Basketball team lost their conference opener on the road at Coffeyville 79-83. The game was close the entire night, with the largest lead being 9 points in favor of Coffeyville. There were 6 ties and 6 lead changes throughout the game. The Red Devils shot the ball really we from 3 point line, connecting on 12 of 24 attempts for 50% for the game. The Red Ravens took a 7 point advantage into the halftime break, leading 37-30. In the second half, Allen was able to keep the game close, and eventually came back in the final few minutes and had a brief lead. With roughly 1 minute and 30 seconds left, the Red Devils grabbed a 1 point lead, but Coffeyville came back with a tough basket of their own to re-take the lead.

 

DaRon Mims had a good look from 3 with a few seconds remaining, which would have tied the game, but his shot just missed the mark. Mims led both teams in scoring, finishing with 22 points on 8 of 14 shooting in 28 minutes of action. Quentin Blaue also had a big game for the Red Devils, scoring 19 points and connecting on 5 of his 6 three point attempts. Along with Blaue, Shon Sanders shot the ball well, making 4 of his 6 attempts from the three point line. EJ Garnes also reached double figures, scoring 10 points, and also dished out 8 assists.

 

The Red Devils fought tough the entire game, but ultimately came up just short. Coffeyville took advantage of the Free Throw line, going 33-43 on the night, to Allen's 15 of 23 for the game.

 

Allen is now 3-2 on the season, and 0-1 in Jayhawk Conference play. The Red Devils will return to action Wednesday night vs Neosho. Game times are set for 6:00 PM for the Women's game, and 8:00 PM for the Men's game here in Iola.
