Allen Basketball defeats Independence 91-82

The Allen Men's Basketball team won their 3rd home conference game in a row, defeating Independence 91-82. Allen got off to a good start to the game and led the entire first half, leading by as many as 12 points. Independence would make a run, as Allen turned the basketball over on consecutive possessions, and Independence tied the game going into halftime with the score of 39-39. After the halftime break, Allen came out strong again and regained the lead. Allen held a steady lead for most of the second half of play.

 

In the final minutes of the game Allen converted their free-throws to seal the game. Allen went 29-35 from the charity stripe for the game for 82.9%. Darnell Jones-Bowie had one of his better games of his career at Allen, scoring 26 points, and dishing out 4 assists. Jones-Bowie connected on 4 of 6 3 point attempts, and went 10-12 from the free-throw line. Jameel Henson recorded another double-double with 21 points on 6 of 12 shooting, and grabbed 10 rebounds, and 1 blocked shot. Jermaine Long also reached double digits scoring with 15 points, many coming in the second half.

 

Allen improved to 12-10 overall on the season, and 4-8 in Jayhawk Conference play. Allen will travel to Chanute Monday evening for a road rivalry game against Neosho at 7:30 PM.
