Allen improves to 11-9 overall on the season

Allen Men's Basketball won 75-68 at home Saturday evening in a conference match up against the Cowley Tigers. The Red Devils got off to a slow start in the opening minutes of the game, as coach Shaw was forced to call timeout down 2-8 in the early going. From there Allen would respond and went on to dominate the first half of play. Allen would take a 12 point lead into the halftime break with the score of 42-30. Allen's full court pressure was able to cause Cowley some fits, and the Red Devils held Cowley to just 28.1% shooting in the first half of play.

 

Cowley picked up their offense in the second half and cut into Allen's lead. Cowley eventually cut the lead down to 2 points in the final few minutes of play, but Jermaine Long responded with a huge 3 pointer to bump the lead back up to 5 points, and the Red Devils were able to keep the lead through the last couple minutes of play. George Tingling came off the bench in the second half and really helped Allen defend the paint, as Cowley was having success scoring at the rim until Tingling came in and protected the rim better for Allen. Allen's defensive effort was crucial in the win as they held Cowley to 35.9% from the floor for the entire game. Allen forced Cowley into 21 turnovers for the game, making it 3 straight games that Allen has forced their opponent into 20+ turnovers.

 

Jermaine Long led all scorers with an impressive 30 points for the night. Long shot 18 free-throws on the night and made 15, and also went 3 of 7 from the 3 point line. Jameel Henson recorded another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. DaRon Mims scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.

 

Allen improved to 11-9 overall on the season, and is now 3-7 in conference play. Allen will travel to Butler County on Wednesday night for a road conference game. Butler is also 3-7 in conference right now.
