81-78 win over Penn Valley

The Allen Men's Basketball improved to 6-2 on the season with a 81-78 win over Penn Valley Friday afternoon. The Red Devils got off to a quick start in the first half and grabbed a double digit lead in the first 5 minutes of play. Near the half way point of the first half Penn Valley made a comeback and even temporarily took a lead late in the first. Allen struggled to get defensive stops in the last 10 minutes of the first half. Penn Valley ended up shooting 63% in the first half of play, to Allen's 48%, but the half time score was knotted up at 45-45. 

 

Allen's second half defensive effort was much better as they held Penn Valley to 32% from the floor. Allen faced a late game deficit of 4 points with about 5 minutes to play, but the Red Devils were able to get some key defensive stops in the final minutes. Quentin Blaue made 3 in the final few minutes to help the Red Devils regain the lead. Darnell Jones-Bowie connected on 1 of 2 free throws with 4 seconds remaining, and Penn Valley's half court heave at the buzzer bounced off the side of the rim. 

 

Jermaine Long and Jah-Kobe Womack led the way in scoring with 15 points each. Long also dishes out 7 assists, while Womack grabbed 8 rebounds. Darnell Jones-Bowie scored 11 points, and went 9 for 12 from the free throw line. Quentin Blaue also reached double digits with 10 points, connecting on 2-4 from the 3 point line. 

 

Allen returns to Fort Scott Saturday afternoon for a 2:00 PM tip-off against Wentworth Military Academy.
