Iola, KS- The Red Devils and the Highland Community College Scotties matched up for the final 2 games of their 4 game conference match up on the campus of Allen Community College on Saturday.
Austin Cross (Hillsboro, KS) got the nod in game 1 on Saturday. Cross earned the win going 3 innings striking out 3 and walking 1. Hector Abreu (Yabucoa, PR) threw 2 2/3 inning giving up 4 runs, scattering 6 hits and striking out 4. Earning the save in the game was Conner Darnell (Chouteau, OK) fired the final 1 1/3 allowing no hits and striking out 2.
Leading the offense was Matt Phipps (Dublin, OH) and Sky-Lar Culver (Mountain Home, AR). Both had 2 hits and 2 RBI's a piece. Also having a multiple hit day was Nathan Best (Olathe, KS). Best finished the day 2 for 3 and a run scored. Aaron Mason (Omaha, NE) finished with a double and 2 RBI's.
Taylor Gulick (Baker City, OR) took the ball in game 2. Gulick was dealt the loss going only 2 innings giving up 4 runs 3 of which were earned. Colton Crisp (Whitewater, KS) fired 5 1/3 scoreless innings striking out 9 and scattering 5 hits. Jonathan Walker (Topeka, KS) and Nathan Woodruff (Atlanta, GA) combined over the last 2 innings striking out 3 and walking none.
The Red Devil offense couldn't sustain much of an offense in game 2. The Red Devils managed 9 hits but they left 8 runners on base. Tony Dougan (Wellsville, KS) had 2 hits for the Red Devils. Brayden Whitchurch (Wichita, KS) also had 2 hits in the game. Culver and Best finished with 2 hits a piece as well.
The Red Devils are home again on Thursday against Neosho County starting at 1 pm.
