Iola, KS- The Allen Community Red Devils hosted the Ottawa JV baseball team for a double header on the Allen Campus.
The Red Devils wasted no time in setting the tone early on the day by getting a quality start out of Conner Darnell (Chouteau, OK). Darnell fired a scoreless top of the 1st inning which provided the opportunity for the offense to get going early by scoring 5 runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Red Devil offense was paced by Sky-lar Culver (Mountain Home, AR) and Justus Burke (Bettendorf, IA). Culver finished the day 2-2 with a double and a homerun and 2 RBI's. Burke was 1-2 with a 3 run homerun. Also having a solid day at the plate was Nathan Best (Olathe, KS). Best was 3-3 with a double and an RBI.
With the offense providing an early cushion, the rest of the day belonged to Darnell. Darnell who threw a complete game no hitter for the Red Devils. He went 5 innings striking out 9 and walking 3.
In game 2, the pitching again dominated the day. Jake Pease (Fort Wayne, IN) got the start and the win. Pease threw 2 innings of scoreless baseball. Coleton Crisp (Whitewater, KS), Jacob Potter (Victoria, BC) and Nate Postlethwait (Valley Center, KS) finished up the last 4 innings combining to only give up 1 run while striking out 8.
The Red Devil offense managed to put up 11 runs on 14 hits. Leading the pack again was Burke, he finished a perfect 4-4 on the day, with a double, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's. Matt Phipps (Dublin, OH) finished 3-4 with a double, run scored and 1 RBI. Zach Adams (Overland Park, KS) was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.
The Red Devils are off till February 24th and 25th at Colby Community College in Colby, KS.
