Red Devils rebound with a rout

Allen Community College's women didn't let a loss to top-ranked Johnson County linger Saturday. The Red Devils dominated from the start in a 39-point win over KCK. The Red Devils were dominant from the start Saturday, racing to leads of 18-10 after one quarter and 45-16 at halftime of an 84-43 romp over Kansas City Kansas.

By the time the buzzer sounded, Crane?s biggest issue was determining which area was most pleasing. After all, Allen out-rebounded 45 to 31.

?If you out-rebound a team, you?re probably going to win,? Crane said. ?But I was even more impressed with our 11 turnovers. Kansas City?s a good team, and they pressed us.

Allen?s defense is no slouch, either. The Red Devils limited KCK to 3 o 23 shooting in the first half, and limited Blue Devil standout Jada Johnson ? the Jayhawk Conference?s leading scorer ? to 13 points, eight below her season average.

?We did some things defensively, kind of got them off kilter,? Crane noted. ?We got them out of their rhythm.

?We had a great team effort,? Crane said ?We bounced back very well after a tough game against Johnson County. We did a nice job to make sure we were doing things that needed to be done.?

Sarang West poured in 17 points to lead Allen, while Sara Ortiz had 11 pounds and 11 rebounds. Khassidy Warr added 16 points and nine boards. Mafalda Chambel scored 11 points with four assists.

Allen (19-4) travels to Highland Wednesday, before returning home the following Wednesday to host Labette to wrap up the regular season.
