Red Devil Rally

Red Devil Rally

The Allen Community College Red Devil Spirit Program, coached by Mackenzie Anstaett and Marielle Melvin and made up of Allen Cheer and the Firestarters Dance Team along with school mascot Reggie the Red Devil, hosted the Allen Red Devil Rally and RDSP 24-hour Dance-A-Thon on Friday, October 15, 2021 in the Allen Gymnasium. The team and coaches were also assisted by RDSP alumna and current ESU student and Stingers Dance Team member, Chloe Hageman. The rally was attended by an extremely large and enthusiastic crowd and the teams proceeded to pump them up with several dance and cheer routines, stunt displays, and crowd participation cheers and chants.

Like K.U.’s “Late Night in the Phog”, the Red Devil Rally was held to kick off this year’s Allen Basketball season. All of the men’s and women’s team players were introduced by “The Voice of the Red Devils”; Allen’s basketball announcer Brandon Thomas. He also introduced Head Women’s Coach Leslie Crane and Head Men’s Coach Andy Shaw as well as Allen Community College’s #1 Sports Fan, Steve Uitts. Following introductions, the basketball team members impressed the crowd with some extraordinary athletic skills on the court including a slam dunk contest which was judged by President John Masterson, Athletic Director Doug Desmarteau, and Trustee Neal Barclay.

After the Rally, the RDSP held a Dance Down Dance Contest which was won by Haidyn Desmarteau. Next, the teams hosted The Allen Community College Talent Show. After the many entertaining acts were finished performing, a dance duo, featuring Trevelle Means and Josiah LaRue, was named Runner-Up and winning the 1st Place Award with an accompanying $50.00 cash prize was ACC student and vocalist Dezmon Tillman.

At 11:30 p.m., to finish off the night, the festivities moved to the Allen Activities Building and the Spirit Squad and their coaches hosted an All Night Dance Party for the entire student body which featured music, games, karaoke, and dancing.  The squad collected canned goods for the community as a ticket into their events and have been making their presence known in the community with High Five Fridays as they greet the local children entering their school on Friday mornings.

On Saturday morning the ACC Spirit Squad danced and cheered in the Iola Farm-City Days Parade followed by their performance cheering on the ACC Volleyball team that afternoon.
